Our Common Experience of Trauma

Last week I entered the energetic realm of the pelvis with Wild Feminine.  It is so important to recognize our common experience of trauma, which may be the result of a multitude of different situations, but for too many of us, a part of our trauma history is very intertwined with our pelvis.  Trauma can leave physical and emotional scars as well as energetic scars.

Peter Levine’s Waking the Tiger was the first book on trauma that I encountered.  It arrived in my life as I was recovering from my lightning injury and I was trying to make sense of what I was feeling physically, emotionally and energetically.  And, I was not receiving the support I needed to heal from the traditional health care system.  I have learned a lot since then from about releasing and healing my past traumas.  I have also learned a lot through educating myself about working with people who have experienced trauma and from being in community with other women.

We have all experienced trauma, the stories may be different, but the imprint that has been left on our nervous system is likely similar.  Some are better at covering it up, which sometimes leaves the rest of us think that we are the only ones who have trauma in our history.  And, if you think you haven’t experienced trauma, you might want to reconsider.  Unless you have a very robust self-care practice focused on building resilience, your nervous system may be interpreting the compounding effects of your over-scheduled, sleep-deprived, nutrient and movement-depleted life as trauma.

It is so important to find ways to release trauma, build resilience and to welcome ease.  There are books, there are workshops and there are practitioners to support you on the journey to release trauma and to move toward healing.  Here are some of my favorites.
